Dear audience, dear Klezmer fans and friends of current Jewish music,
you are probably surprised to find that the International Klezmer Festival has been renamed. The festival has always gone beyond Klezmer, presenting the whole diversity of Jewish music including impulses from the current Jewish music scene. That’s why we decided, for the 19th edition, to use a title that reflects just that: Jewish Music Today Fürth!
Our festival opener is an Israeli musician – Hadar Maoz – who incorporates 2,500 years of musical and cultural history in her energetic performance. And she does it with a great deal of joy, spreading the message of peace between all cultures through her music – a message that stands for this festival like no other.
We hope that we all come together during these ten days and feel the connecting power of music. There are plenty of opportunities: World class musicians live in concert at the Kulturforum, the popular Klezmer parade through one of the city’s most picturesque streets, small pub concerts for free, group dances and workshops with excellent teachers. Films, guided tours, and a public Shabbat service invite you to learn more about Jewish life.
The children's musical Ben & David, commissioned for the last festival, is also coming back to stage due to its great success!
We look forward to seeing you!
Gerti Köhn, festival director
